Abstract: | Two of the most pressing scientific and technological problems faced by the modern society and the scientific community in the 21st century, is that of energy crisis and environmental degradation. These two global problems are closely intertwined which, with increasing global population and technological advancement of the modern world, have set to question the very sustainability and existence of the human race. The energy demand of the world is predicted to increase by 35 percent by 2030 from that of 2005 levels. This phenomenal increase is driven predominantly by the demographic growth in developing countries accompanied by a fast expanding economy. |
