dc.description.abstract Luminescent light harvesting hybrid materials form a curious field not only because of their potential to deal with a variety of device related challenges, but also because they break new ground with the current trend of merging both organic and inorganic functionalities. We have chosen parent inorganic materials to illustrate how their design principles can have a huge impact on the science to come in this decades-old field. Though broadly the strategies used, such as encapsulation and co-assembly are based on similar concepts as used in previous eras, our emphasis lies on their application in new kinds of materials. We also concur with the fact that a better structure-property relationship can be arrived at in these materials and hence a common rationale can be established to investigate this field. Apart from this, we have given a perspective about the strategies that have been employed to bring about processability in these materials. en_US
