A hybrid chain compound of the formula [Sr(L- C4H4O5)center dot 3H(2)O]center dot H2O (1) and a hybrid double layered compound of the formula [Pb(L- C4H4O5)] (2) both with chiral structures, have been prepared strarting with L- malic acid, and characterized by X-ray crystallography and other techniques. An achiral three-dimensional hybrid compound of the composition [Pb(D,L- C4H4O5)center dot 2H(2)O] (3) has been obtained starting with D, L- malic acid. A chiral coordination polymer of Cu-II with the formula [Cu-3(L-C4H3O5)(2)center dot 4H(2)O]center dot 2H(2)O (4) has also been characterized. The structures as well as the novel coordination modes exhibited by 1-4 are discussed.en_US
